“Although the application tsunami has certainly hit Brown University, the application process (at this Ivy) is fiercely personal,” according to Logan Powell, Dean of Admissions. This year, the university received 35,000 applications and accepted 1,829 students. The office uses no quotas or cutoff values and takes in approximately 1/3 of the class through early decision; 96% of the students are in the top 10% of their high school classes. First generation students in this class number 16%, and Brown has a continued commitment to admitting students from this demographic. In addition, Brown has a commitment to international enrollment, maintaining that segment at 12-15% for the foreseeable future.
What’s new at Brown? The University’s Division of Engineering transformed into the Brown School of Engineering; its engineering program is the oldest in the Ivy League.
